Let’s first get the raw numbers out the way. The MDR-XB510AS comes packed with features that will leave any average music listener quite satisfied with what it has to offer.
- Manufacturer: Sony
- Form Factor: Wired Headphones
- Type: In-Ear Headphones
- Battery: N/A
- Noise Cancellation: Yes
- IP Rating: IPX5/7
- Colors: Black, Blue, Red, and Green
These headphones come in four vibrant colors to match your personality. You can pick your headphones either in Black, Blue, Red or Green. We think the green one stands out from the crowd and has a lot of personalities. They are your tried and tested cylindrical designed headphones with stabilizing arcs to hold them in place.
Another great value add is the long 1.2m cord that it comes with. This gives you the freedom to move about and put your device whether it’s a phone or a music player in your pocket comfortably without having to worry about tugging on the cable. They are solidly built and come off as quite a durable pair of high-quality headphones.
When you wear them, the headphones do seem to stick out quite a bit from the ears given their large size. Generally, a comfortable pair of headphones but prolonged usage could put some strain in your ears. But we do not think that is a deal-breaker as the overall package is great and at any point we didn’t get the feeling of wanting to remove them.
From the packaging to the unboxing experience, the MDR-XB510AS headphones give out a sense of premium quality and craftsmanship.
It seems that Sony hits a home run with each headphone that comes with the EXTRA BASS™ branding for bass junkies. All of Sony’s headphones with the EXTRA BASS™ branding produce very soothing low-end notes and thumping bass. The Sony MDR-XB510AS is no exception. The sound of this is quite crisp and is most definitely a tad bit bass-heavy, which by no means is a bad thing if that is your style. Hip Hop and Rap music with a thumping bass is a joy to listen to on these. It also does a decent job of reproducing the mids as well but we did feel it was a tad bit lacking when it came to the high tones. Some headphones in the market usually distort the high notes on high volume, however, the MDR-XB510AS managed to maintain a clear and crisp sound all throughout.
The sound comes from the 12mm dome type (CCAW) driver units and is capable of a frequency response ranging from 4Hz – 24,000 Hz making it quite a versatile pair of in-ear headphones. To ensure you get the best use out of these. All in all, the sound is very good but slightly falls behind in the high notes, which is not an issue in most cases.
Packing some very crucial creature comforts, the Sony MDR-XB510AS comes with a bunch of customer-friendly features.
Full-Featured Box: Apart from the headphones, obviously, you also get a clip, a carrying pouch to safely put away your brand-new headphones, a headphone cable length adjuster, different silicone rubber earbuds and arc supporters. You are good to go right away with this pair of headphones.
Water Resistant: No more worries about damaging your headphones in the rain or if you are sweating from an intense workout at the gym. These headphones are rated for IPX5/7 resistance. We would still want to mention these are not by any means waterproof, we always recommend to be careful when it comes to electronics near water.
Built-In Button Controls: The headphones come equipped with one multifunctional button but not with a volume button. Meaning whether you own an Android or iOS device, it will work with both.
More from Sony:
For people who are not yet ready to make the jump to a wireless headphone, or simply prefer the sound of headphones that is physically connected to your device, you cannot go wrong with the Sony MDR-XB510AS.
Probably one of the biggest features, given how you look at it, is the fact you do not need to charge these as they are your traditional wired pair of headphones. They sound great, have good built quality, and some added creature comforts like water resistance, carrying pouch in the bag, and other extra features. The different colors you can choose from are just a cherry on the top for music lovers.
