Exceptional build quality and commendable sound at an affordable price are what sets the Sony MDR-XB50AP EXTRA BASS™ In-ear Headphones apart from the rest. Some sound better to some and some not so good to others. It is subjective as well. That is why before going out there and splurging on a brand-new pair of headphones, it is best that you do some research first on the headphones and the options available out there and how those hold up.

That is exactly what we have for you today. We will take a deep dive into the design, build quality, sound, and extra features and see what it has to offer and is it worth buying.

Headphones Design

Numbers and details on paper are just that, numbers and details on paper. An objective way to know how good a product is to actually use it daily and see where it stumbles in its promises and what it successfully delivers.

When it comes to design, the Sony’s MDR-XB50AP EXTRA BASS™ In-ear Headphones Design impresses. In typical Sony fashion, it comes in a mix of premium metals with lightweight plastic. The cord is made from rubber and is flat which helps in reducing wire noise and helps the headphones be tangle-free for the most part. The length of the cable comes in at 1.2m making it just long enough to use comfortably without tugging the headphones when they are in your ears, something we can all agree, is quite annoying.

The headphones also come equipped with button controls, allowing you to take calls. The sound is very impressive and clear as well. The other line is able to hear us clearly with no distortion even in crowded and noisy places. Keep in mind, however, that the Sony MDR-XB50AP EXTRA BASS™ In-ears do not come with active noise cancellation. Nonetheless, it gets the job done. You can use the button to play and pause music for a truly user-friendly experience.

The clever use of plastic and metal makes these headphones very light and easy to carry around. We did not face any issues with prolonged use either. The earbuds themselves are quite large which causes them to stick out a bit. This is due to the large drivers of the headphones, coming at 0.47 inches, bigger than most in-ear alternatives out there.

The Sound

Girl Listening to heaphone

When it comes to heavy bass headphones, the Sony MDR-XB50AP EXTRA BASS™ In-ear Headphones does not disappoint. The sound is a tad bit bias to the low ends given the EXTRA BASS™ branding that is expected. Despite being a bass junkie’s dreams, the headphones can produce very well balanced mids and high tones and really brings the songs you listen, to life. The drivers are quite large compared to other options and can output frequencies as low as 4Hz – 24,000Hz.

In addition, the headphones are clearly marked for the left and right ear but you can also eyeball the headphone and find out. It only goes in one way.

The headphones also have noise isolation which makes listening to songs quite immersive. Keep in mind that these are not active noise-canceling headphones. Some of the ambient sounds still creep through the headphones but are very good for use while on the road.

Keep in mind that the size of earbuds you use can also contribute to the sound quality as well. There are four different sizes of earbuds, pick the right one for your ears, and make sure you have a solid fit. That way you ensure you get the best experience out of the headphones.
